A CAR careered off a dual carriageway after being struck by a strong gust of wind.
The vehicle was travelling towards Durham City on the A167 near Pity Me roundabout at around 5pm on Tuesday wen the accident happened.
A Durham Fire Station spokesman said he gust of wind caused the car to clip the central reservation, go across the lane and off the road into a field.
The spokesman said: “Miraculously it missed the trees and ended upright in a field.”
Two fire engines from Durham station attended the incident as well as a special rescue vehicle from Bishop Auckland.
There were no reports of the driver being hurt who was helped out of his car.
The region was battered by the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo with winds of up to 50mph.
