EMERGENCY services were called after a car was driven off a promenade at a Sunderland beach.
The vehicle was driven off the promenade into the water below, but the driver was unharmed.
Police attended the scene along with the ambulance service.
The Sunderland Coastguard also attended, but their assistance was not required.
Officers remained at the beach for several hours making the area safe and assessing when the vehicle can be removed from the area.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a report at 11.08am that a car had been driven off the promenade off Hendon at 11.08am.
“A male was at the scene. He was unharmed and spoken to by police.
“He did not require hospital treatment.”
The male driver of the vehicle is being spoken to by police in relation to the incident.
