A DRIVER had a lucky escape when his car smashed through a wall and into the side of a garage.
The incident happened in Weardale Avenue, South Bents, Seaburn, when the car slammed into a wall in front of the house, before hitting the garage.
Bricks from the garage came away leaving a hole in the side. The car, a Honda Civic, was also left badly damaged following the incident.
Rosalind Scott, who has lived in the house for 18 years, said: “I phoned the emergency services right away.
“I don’t really know how it happened, but I think it was just an accident. Hopefully I’ll be able to sort out the insurance soon.”
Officers are now investigating exactly what happened.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “We received a report at 3.50pm of a car crashing into a garage in Weardale Avenue.
“There appears to have been one person in the car, the driver, who wasn’t injured.
“Arrangements were then made for the car to be removed.”
No-one was injured in the crash, which happened on Thursday.
