A TOTAL of 108 candidates will battle to fill 25 council seats at the Sunderland City Council election on May 22.
The Labour Party and Conservatives have each nominated 25 candidates, followed by UKIP with 23 and 18 Liberal Democrats.
There are also nine Green Party candidates, five from Trade Unionists and Socialists against Cuts (TUSC) and three independents.
No British National Party members or other right-wing groups have put forward candidates as they have done previously in Sunderland
Anyone who has not yet registered to vote is urged to contact the council or visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk for more information.
The Regional Returning Officer for the North East is Sunderland City Council chief executive Dave Smith.
He said: “If you are not already on the register then please register. If you want to have a say in these elections then you must be on the register.
“Anyone who has not yet registered to vote has until Tuesday May 6 to return an application form. “If you are not on the register you will not be able to vote.”
Declarations will be made on May 25 from 10pm.
