An award-winning health team was on a high for weeks after lifting a Sunderland Echo trophy – and now it is bidding to do it again.

The Sunderland-based Cancer Information Support Service were winners of the Customer Service category at last year’s health awards.

The team is in contention once again, this time for Health Team of the Year.

Julie Henderson, the Macmillan survivorship support worker at the team based in Sunderland Royal Hospital, said: “It was a massive morale booster when we won last time, especially for the volunteers who give up their own time to come in.

“They were on a high for weeks when we heard the news. It was amazing.”

The Cancer Information Support Service spends every day offering help, support and hope to vulnerable people, who often have a terminal condition.

It handles hundreds of inquiries every month.

The deadline for nominations this year is March 31.
