RESIDENTS are needed to open up their homes to German guests during a twinning visit this summer.
Forty visitors from Nordenham are due to stay in Peterlee for a week from Tuesday, July 2.
More host families are needed to put up the guests during their stay.
Bob Emmerson, chairman of the Peterlee and Nordenham Friendship Association, said: “We have arranged accommodation for around 25 but are still short.
“About 22 of the visitors are teenagers so we have been going into schools and colleges to draw some support.
“The object of the visit is to familiarise our German guests with different cultures and experiences.” Although built around an old fishing port, Nordenham has largely grown up as a new town, having turned 100 years old in 2008.
It has been twinned with Peterlee since 1981, with three generations of the same families now good friends through the agreement.
Anyone who can help to accommodate any of the German guests, or who would like more information, can call Mr Emmerson on (01429) 870873, Gill Stokoe on 586 3663 or Angela Crawford on 518 0996.
