Bosses at an international firm say they are delighted to be backing this year’s Sunderland Echo Portfolio Awards.

Calsonic Kansei, which has its headquarters in Japan and operates worldwide, will be sponsoring the Training Provider of the Year Award.

The company, which has a site in Washington, two in Sunderland and a warehousing operation in Doxford Park, supplies heat exchangers, heating ventilation and air conditioners, as well as exhaust systems, dashboards and electronic components to the automotive industry.

A company spokesman said: “At Calsonic Kansei we are committed to continuous improvement and the development of our employees.

“Learning is one of the cornerstones of the CK Way, which is a set of guidelines for employees which represents what we believe in as an organisation.

“Our learning value tells us to share knowledge and expertise with others, constantly address personal development needs and to always strive to create a learning culture in our organisation.”

The firm said they decided to back the category as the business recongises the need to provide employees with training so they can develop.

“As a business we recognise that in order for employees to be efficient, productive and adaptable, they need new skills and the chance to develop,” a spokesman continued.

“As such we work with various training organisations within the North East to achieve these aims.

“We recognize that a good training provider can act as so much more than just a supplier of training and can be a true partner to an organization in terms of identifying development needs and implementing creative, bespoke solutions.
“They can advise, guide and support a business in achieving their goals and can be key in allowing a business to evolve.”

Judging of this year’s competition has now been held. The next stage is the grand final at the Stadium of Light on October 13.
