WORKERS are moonlighting in a bid to top up their incomes.

New figures show the number of
people taking on second jobs in Sunderland has increased by more than 103 per cent.

A recent poll of ‘moonlighters’ also showed that three in five are taking on extra work not to splash out on luxuries, but to pay heating bills or cover the costs of the weekly shop.

The majority work in the early evenings, on top of their 9am-5pm jobs and more than half work weekends.

Most moonlighters are clocking up an extra six to 10 hours per week on top of their day jobs and almost four in ten say it is keeping them from serious financial trouble and almost a third are moonlighting just to be able to afford to heat their homes.
