BUSINESS is flying for a Sunderland-based travel agent, which is set to open a new shop.
Hays Travel is hoping to open a new branch in Hexham before Christmas.
Last month the company acquired the south’s largest independent travel agency, Bath Travel.
Hays retail and training director at Jane Schumm said: “I’m delighted to announce the opening of a new shop in Hexham, Northumberland, in December.
“The shop is yet another example of our faith in the future of the retail market, and we have even more expansion in the pipeline.
“We feel this is a natural progression of our North-East branches and that the expansion will strengthen and bolster our street presence in an increased area.”
Established in 1980, Hays Travel grew from humble beginnings, with managing director John Hays founding it in the back of his mother’s childrenswear shop in Seaham.
Most of its retail presence remains within the North East, but the company also has several shops in the North West and some as far south as Sheffield.
The acquisition of Bath Travel saw it take on a further 60 branches. It now has a turnover exceeding £520million and employs more than 800 people.
The company is recruiting for travel consultant positions within the new shop in Hexham.
