A STUDENT is dishing up a good offer to her fellow scholars.
Blessing Emmanuel has shown she knows her onions by launching the food co-operative, which is offering undergraduates at the University of Sunderland locally sourced organic fruit, vegetables and specialist foods from local firms.
The Student Food Co-op is trading from the University of Sunderland’s Students’ Union store at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s.
TMSc Enterprise in Biotechnology graduate Blessing said: “I am really passionate about promoting healthy eating and I am very excited about opening up a new store in Sunderland.”
The young businesswoman opened her stall after successfully bidding for more than £2,500 of social enterprise funding through UnLtd, a provider of support to social entrepreneurs in the UK, to help establish the Student Food Co-op.
Blessing is one of a number of Sunderland students and graduates who are setting up new businesses with support from The Enterprise Place, a facility for student and graduate entrepreneurs at the university.
Business development manager Vince Robson said: “Blessing has worked really hard to develop her business during the past few months.
“We wish her every success.”
The Student Food Co-op is open 11am to 3pm Wednesday to Friday.
