Sunderland stores braced for last-minute Christmas rush

SHOP bosses are bracing themselves for the last-minute rush today.

The Bridges boss, Andy Bradley, is predicting the centre will be busy right up until the close of business as the end of a bumper festive shopping season arrives.

“It has been another great weekend for retailers at The Bridges, and it’s hard to believe Christmas is almost here,” he said.

“The weekend was bustling, both days, all day, with shoppers eager to finish off their festive shopping.

“With online orders no longer guaranteed for delivery before Christmas, it was certainly a very busy Monday, with shoppers visiting to purchase gifts in person.

“Toys and fashion, as expected, continue to perform well and we expect that to continue right up until tonight.

“As always, we are seeing those who leave their shopping to the last minute.

“But our retailers are fully prepared for the late dash and still have plenty of gift ideas to choose from.

“The message is – don’t panic, there is still today left – Christmas 2013 is not over yet.”
