A UNIQUE shopping experience offered cash-strapped students double discounts and lots of giveaways.
With loans burning holes in their pockets, crowds of student shoppers hoping to grab a bargain hit The Bridges for the special event.
For one night only, The Bridges opened up after hours for students to enjoy exclusive discounts of up to 25 per cent off brands including New Look, 3 Store, Tucci, Warehouse, and Miss Selfridges.
Retailers had a record-breaking night of sales, as people queued out the door of Superdry for most of the evening.
DJs from capital FM brought along iPads, Xbox’s and giveaways to keep everyone entertained while Schuh offered a free glass of fizz to customers.
The event was free to everyone who showed a valid student ID and people were given the chance to pre-register online to save them waiting in queues.
Centre director at The Bridges Andy Bradley hailed the night was a huge success.
The lock-in was the perfect platform to remind everyone that Sunderland is a fashion hub in the North East.
He said: “The evening highlighted how Sunderland students have what it takes to be top of the style stakes and these discounts were the perfect opportunity for us to showcase the retailers’ latest trends and great prices.”
Total students UK, which organised the night, works with universities across the country and is well known for putting on a good show.
The MS society also held a raffle on the evening and managed to raise hundreds of pounds to fund its information services and support for people with MS.
As revealed in the Echo, the shopping centre’s new £15million Primark store has set an opening date for next month and has started a recruitment drive to employ 70 people in the store.
The fashion chain confirmed the High Street West development will open its doors for the first time on Saturday, November 17 – in time for the Christmas rush.
Krispy Kreme doughnut chain is also preparing to open up a counter in The Bridges after the successful launch of the American giant’s 50th store in the country.
It is hoped the new store will create 15 new jobs.
Hoarding has also gone up at the shopping centre for clothing store Internationale in The Bridges soon.
