RYHOPE joiner Brendan Gent is going up against the region’s best tradesmen today to vie for a top title.

Brendan, 35, owner of Lea King Plumbing, has been shortlisted in a search by hardware firm Screwfix to find Britain’s top tradesman.

The regional finalists will go head to head at the firm’s Peterlee store today, taking part in a number of tasks for a chance to compete for the national title, along with a Toyota Proace van worth £27,000.

“I hate to see bad workmanship and often get called upon to fix other problems, even if I’m there on a completely different job,” said Brendan.

“Being selected as a regional finalist for Britain’s top tradesman in recognition of this is fantastic, and I hope to make it all the way to the final.”

Screwfix marketing director John Mewett said: “Brendan’s commitment to his customers really is to be admired. He has demonstrated his willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done.”
