STAFF at a jewellers store are putting the kettle on to help a cancer charity.
Visitors to Beaverbrooks, in Sunderland’s Bridges shopping centre, will be able to have a cuppa to join in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event on Friday to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Staff at the shop have already raised money for the charity and are hoping to add to the total by holding a coffee morning.
Nearly 350 individuals and groups across Wearside and South Tyneside have already registered with the charity to take part in the national event, its biggest fund-raiser on the calendar.
Macmillan Cancer Support is urging even more people in the area to sign up in the hope of reaching a fund-raising target of £68,000.
Nationally, the charity aims to raise £8.3million from the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning across the UK.
Sarah Goldie, Macmillan’s fund-raising manager in Wearside and South Tyneside, said: “We are really grateful to everyone who has signed up to hold a coffee morning for Macmillan so far.
“Their support is very much appreciated and we hope they have a fantastic time at their event.
“The great thing about the event is that it is really easy to take part in, especially as you can tailor it to suit yourself.
“If you can’t do it on Friday then just pick another day. If you’re not keen on coffee and would rather have cocktails or even herbal tea then that’s fine as well.”
