SUNDERLAND housing group Gentoo has won the contract to upgrade 700 council properties in South Tyneside.
The work is expected to start on site at the beginning of November at Lukes Lane in Hebburn, on homes around Jarrow town centre and at Brockley Whins in South Shields.
Gentoo was appointed after South Tyneside Homes ended its arrangement with its former contractor Mitie earlier this year.
Coun Allan West, the council’s lead member for housing and transport, said: “We know that some tenants have faced delays with the Decent Homes work and we’d like to thank them for their patience.
“Gentoo has an excellent track record in delivering high-quality homes and we’re confident residents will reap all the benefits of the renovations.”
