STAFF at a Sunderland manufacturing plant are getting regular health checks on their fight for fitness.
Workers at pump manufacturer Grundfos, in Ferryboat Lane, have signed up to a 12-week course which will see them have an initial health and lifestyle assessment from health trainers, who will measure their height and weight, and then check blood pressure, diet, and cholesterol and BMI levels.
They will then be given a personalised health plan.
Michael McKenzie, production supervisor at Grundfos’s Castletown site, said: “One of the company’s slogans is ‘Happy, Healthy, Here’ and courses like this help us support that vision.
“During the course you keep a food diary and then the trainers talk to you about your diet and give you healthier options if necessary.”
Grundfos general manager Lee Carlin, said: “I would urge other companies to work alongside health trainers for the benefit of their employees.
“It doesn’t cost anything and helps people to think more seriously about their health and wellbeing.”
