THE company behind a multimillion-pound scheme to develop a run-down area of north west Sunderland has furthered its commitment to the city by sponsoring a key category in the Sunderland Echo Portfolio Business Awards 2011.
Verum Victum Ltd, whose £10milion development of shops and offices at North Hylton Road is expected to create bout 250 jobs, is the sponsor for the Business with under 50 Employees award.
Verum Victum project manager Roy Kenny said: “Verum Victum is a newcomer to the city but have become very aware of how important the Portfolio Awards are to businesses on Wearside and we were very keen to show our support and commitment.
“We have been really impressed with the dynamism, creativity and forward- thinking approach shown by everyone we have dealt with and are really delighted to support this event and this particular category, which rewards achievement by a small business.
“Verum Victum is looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the city and has really appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of Sunderland people and we, in turn, are delighted that our development is going to bring jobs and a whole range of exciting new facilities to the area.”
Verum Victum’s development, on the former Jennings Motor Group site, was recently granted planning permission by Sunderland City Council.
It will include a new local centre including a supermarket, retail units and offices.
Not only will the new centre improve the facilities available to nearby residents but it will also boost the local workforce by creating both full and part-time jobs.
Mr Kenny added: “As far back as 1998 Sunderland City Council identified this area as needing a local centre and we are delighted to be in a position to provide it.”
This year’s Sunderland Echo Portfolio Business Awards presentation will be held at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, October 13. For tickets, contact Sorted PR on 265 6111 or visit www.echoportfolioawards.co.uk
