Sunderland Digital is a new group which meet on the third Wednesday of every month.

Organisers hope it will become a highlight in the calendar of the city's technology community.

Nathan Lawson of Consult and Design, one of the organisers, said: “Sunderland Digital is an opportunity to bring to life the many ways in which individuals and organisations are using apps and mobile technology to engage with their audiences and the latest technical developments that are creating new and exciting opportunities.

“Sunderland, and the North East at large, is home to a vibrant community of digital and technology experts.

"We hope Sunderland Digital will become a ‘hub’ for them – somewhere they’re keen to attend to not only learn more, but also socialise with like-minded people.

"It’s really about bringing people in this field together to shine a spotlight on the great work that’s coming out of Sunderland at the moment and building that digital community."

The next Sunderland Digital meeting has already gained regional attention, with more than 60 people registered.

It is free to attend and will take place from 6pm tonight at Sunderland Software Centre.
