Sunderland car hire business expands

A SUNDERLAND vehicle rental business is set to reach £1million turnover in the coming year, after launching a specialist division due to huge demand.

Car2U has seen sales rise by 60 per cent to £720,000 in the last year and the business has doubled its workforce as calls for its services grows.

The firm, based at Southwick Industrial Estate, started in 2010 with just two staff, but now has 10 employees and plans to create another three jobs this year.

Bosses say demand for dual-control cars has doubled in the last year, prompting managing director Gill Frary to invest £20,000 in the launch of Car2Instruct, dedicated to providing dual-control and short-term replacement vehicles for advanced driving instructors, and pre-qualified driving instructors, as well as motoring schools.

Gill said: “We have noticed a real growth in demand from motoring schools for dual-control vehicles. It has become such a huge part of Car2U’s business, and we wanted to make sure that driving instructors up and down the country have easy and rapid access to replacement vehicles when they need them.”
