THE proposed relocation of a post office could lead to longer hours and Sunday opening.
The Post Office is proposing to relocate East Boldon Post Office to a new location, where it will open as a modern open-plan branch with extended opening hours.
Post Office local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services and the company claims the new East Boldon branch will offer Post Office products and services throughout shop opening hours, from two open-plan tills at the shop counter instead of from a separate screened counter.
The planned location for the branch is Boldon Convenience Store, in Front Street, East Boldon, which is 100 metres from the present East Boldon Post Office.
Customers are now being invited to give their comments in a six-week public consultation.
Suzanne Richardson, Post Office regional manager said: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The consultation will close on April 1, 2015. Submissions can be made during the consultation by Freepost, addressed YOUR COMMENTS, Post Office Ltd, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the customer helpline on 08457 22 33 44.
Customers can also share their views online through a questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 227327.
