RETAILERS across Sunderland are preparing themselves for the most prestigious night of the year.

After three weeks and hundreds of entries our judges have finally decided on the winners for this year’s Retail Awards.

Designed to showcase the best of Sunderland’s shops and their staff, there are 13 categories.

The standard of entry was higher than ever and the judges had to make some difficult decisions.

On this year’s panel is Echo editor Rob Lawson, Janet Snaith, former head of business investment for Sunderland City Council and John Green of The Bridges, Sunderland.

“The Retail Awards increasingly recognises the importance of the retail sector in our city centre,” said Janet.

“It has been a difficult time but we’ve found this year there has been more and more interest in the awards.

“It’s a great indication of the vibrancy of that sector.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, at 7pm, inside The Bridges, where guests will be treated to a red carpet drinks reception and an all-round glamorous evening.

John said: “The quality of entries has been above expectations.

“It’s a reflection of the great standard of services and shops that we have in the city.”

l Tickets for the awards are available on 501 7114, priced at £20 each or £220 for a table of 12.
