A KEY milestone has been reached in an £11million extension at Durham’s Ramside Hall Hotel.

Work on four pools has been completed for the hotel’s luxury spa extension, which is creating 47 new guest bedrooms, by construction specialist Walter Thompson.

Construction director Paul Hammerton said: “You can really see the spa extension taking shape now and the forming of the pools is a key part of the development. They’re all in position now and all they need is rendering and tiling.

“I’m sure guests will be impressed by the size, scale and quality of the pools – and the spa – and we’re proud to be involved in the further development of Ramside Hall.

“It’s been a really interesting job and we’ve had up to 90 local trades operatives from our team on site at times.”

The main pool is 25m in length and has an adjacent children’s pool and spa pool, as well as a large hexagonal hydrotherapy pool.

Ramside Estates managing director John Adamson said: “The spa will complete our vision for Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club to become a complete golf and leisure destination.

“The addition of our world-class spa and golf course will mean Ramside Hall will be the biggest and leading spa resort hotel in the north of England.”

Other features include 12 therapy rooms, gym, dance studio and hair salon, a Rasul mud chamber and a new Asian style restaurant and bar. The extension will bring room numbers up to 128.
