A BEAUTY salon is the first winner of a new award.

Janice Eggleston Health and Beauty, Cleadon, pipped four other salons to be named North East beauty salon of the year in the English Hair and Beauty Awards.

The awards covered nine areas of the UK, and categories included beauty salon of the year, hair salon of the year, stylist of the year and beauty therapist of the year.

Owner Janice went to the awards ceremony at the Midlands Hotel, Manchester, to receive the award.

She said: “It was a complete surprise to me, because I didn’t even know we had been nominated. I got the call to say we were one of the finalists and at first I thought someone was winding me up.

“It was quite a big occasion and there were probably around 300 people there.

“I was shocked when we won, and I still am really.”

The 41-year-old has been in the beauty industry for 23 years and has owned the salon for 10 years.

“It’s coincidental, but a nice surprise to win the award in our 10th year,” she said. “There are five of us who work at the salon, and I’m lucky because I’ve got lovely staff.

“We have a wonderful clientele who have been coming to us for years.

“I would like to thank whoever the mystery person is who nominated us for the award. This means more than some of the awards given by companies which are dependant on sales, because someone has gone out of their way to put us forward for it.”

“And I would like to thank all of the people who voted for us.”

“I would definitely like to be nominated again next year.

“Now that I know what it is, all of us will go to the event and I won’t just take my husband.”
