A local poet has released his second book – and now hopes to break into the charts as a song-writer.

David Fletcher, 50, from Murton, hopes his latest publication, My Alluring Mind, will be enjoyed by people of all ages.

It has been published as far afield as America, and follows on from Mr Fletcher’s first book, Gutter Rhymes, which included a short poem about a girl who crossed the road in front of him on a rainy day in Glasgow.

That poem was turned into a song called Sultry Sadie, which can be read in the new book.

Mr Fletcher, a former chef who is now an account manager for First Choice Catering, said: “Another author, Paolo Hewitt, told me that the more I wrote, the more I would find my voice, and with My Alluring Mind I really feel I have found just that.

“It takes a long time to write a book, but I’m very happy with how this has turned out, and it has been getting great reviews.

“Amazon described it as an anthology of reason and rhyme with poetry, portraiture and short stories that captivate the senses from the lyrics of life.

“The book takes you to Auschwitz, Scotland, Windermere and Country Lanes, and is a mix of love, passion and real-life trials and tribulations from the world around us.

“The book can be enjoyed by all ages.”

Mr Fletcher is now working with singer Owen Doyle, who is one of the original members of popular boyband Busted. He is hoping to help Mr Doyle – who tours Europe with various bands – into the charts.

Mr Fletcher, who lives with wife Tracey, added: “I’ve achieved my goal now on the writing side, as writing a book had been on my bucket list.

“The next thing on the list is to break into the music charts as a writer.

“I’m working with Owen Doyle, one of the original members of Busted, at the moment.

“We’re song-writing together, and hopefully I can help to get him back out there.”
