FANS of raw fish are in for a treat, as sushi is coming to Sunderland.
North East-based sushi house Nudo is to launch its latest eatery in the city.
The chain already has three branches in Newcastle, but owners say Sunderland will be their largest so far.
The Sushi Box store in the Bridges is due to open later this year, pending planning approval, in the former Johnson’s dry cleaners.
Nudo, which serves up traditional Japanese dishes, already has a restaurant and two cafe-style Sushi Boxes in Newcastle city centre.
Developers plan to add a mezzanine level to the currently empty store, so it can seat up to 33 people, although it believes the majority of trade will be take-away sushi and noodle boxes.
It will also have an outside eating area for 12 diners, and will not serve alcohol.
A change of use application is expected to go before council planners in early March.
