STAFF at a Wearside company gave a warm welcome to colleagues who completed a driving challenge.

Employees at npower’s North East headquarters in Rainton Bridge were on hand to give colleagues from parent group RWE a warm reception as they arrived following a 13-day trip.

The Go and See Tour was launched in Prague and saw Tim Przybylla and Frederic Kappen drive a Tesla S electric car 3,000km across the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, before arriving in the UK and finishing in the North East.

Tim said: “Throughout the Go and See Tour, we visited power stations and projects across Europe that have innovative plans for the future supply of energy, including energy self-sufficient houses, a smart grid, and npower’s rather fun electric vehicle convoy.

The Tesla S can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds, and can drive 300 miles a full battery at 55 miles per hour.

Npower customer services director Gareth Pickles said: “The successful Go and See Tour shows how far the second iteration of electric vehicles has progressed in such a short space of time.

“The Tesla S is proof that electric vehicles can compete with their petrol and diesel counterparts.”

RWE says it is one of the world leaders in developing and delivering charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, making it easy for owners to charge up quickly and safely.
