CONTROVERSIAL changes to the UK’s planning system will be good for business, says the North East Chamber of Commerce.
Campaigners have argued the reforms threaten the green belt.
But Andrew Sugden, chamber director of membership and policy, said: “We very much welcome the new planning framework that will help simplify an incredibly complex system and introduce a presumption in favour of sustainable development.
“In the North East we have more to gain because of our capacity for additional growth.
“This legislation allows us to send a clear signal that economic development is to be welcomed.”
