A NEW bar is hoping to add some fizz to city centre nightlife.
Tiger Lily Champagne Bar has opened its doors in Sunniside in a bid to bring something a little different to the drinking scene.
Specialising in premium champagnes, the bar has opened above Bar Justice in West Sunniside.
Sean Maddison, who owns both venues, said: “There are traditional pubs and bars in Sunderland, but we wanted to give people a different option.
“It’s a completely different venue to downstairs: different drinks, different menu.
“Bar Justice was one of the first venues to open in Sunniside nearly six years ago, and it’s worked for us, so we’re happy with that, but we wanted to try something else as well.”
The bar, which features booths for groups, will initially only open on Friday and Saturday nights, with prices starting at £6 for a glass of champagne and from £25 for one of the cheaper bottles.
It’s the latest new venue to open in the area after Sam’s Bar opened last month.
Bar manager Fiona Tench said: “Sam’s opening has been great because we want to create a route here, to attract more people to this end of town.”
She added: “We had our first Saturday last week, and it went really well.
“It only seats a few groups. It’s an intimate venue, so it has a good atmosphere. We’ve come up with a new menu of cocktails for Tiger Lily as well.”
Up to £20,000 has been spent on renovating the upstairs of the building, which was previously the first Mayor of Sunderland’s house.
