VINTAGE finds and new hair-dos await the fashion conscious as a mother and son launch their own ventures.

Clothing shop Leftfield has opened in North Road, Boldon Colliery.

It is owned by Joanne and Jonathan Pears, who have their own businesses under the same roof.

Jonathan, 24, runs the store with girlfriend Emma O’Hara, 25.

Joanne, 51, who ran Rossi hairdressers in the village for more than two decades, now runs a salon at the back of the shop with two staff.

Jonathan said: “The shop is something I’ve wanted for a while, and I’ve been inspired by shopping in London and hunting through vintage clothes.

“I wanted the shop to look like Carnaby Street in the 1980s, so we’ve got the mustard walls and the checkerboard floor – it’s a bit like a time warp when you walk in.

“My family have had a business in Boldon for almost 25 years, so we’re really excited about carrying on the tradition and the opening of the new shop, offering people in the area something new and different.”
