SUNDERLAND software firm 4Projects is creating jobs and looking forward to breaking into new international markets after being taken over by a leading US firm.

Based at Doxford International, 4Projects supplies software for the construction industry which allows architects, designers, project managers, contractors and sub-contractors to share documents such as drawings, specifications, e-mails and contracts in a secure, easily accessible way on-line.

The technology has been used to manage projects such as the construction of the London 2012 Olympic Park and Wimbledon Centre Court and the company counts 18 of the top 20 UK construction contractors among its customers as well as businesses in other sectors.

Now it has been acquired by Oregon-based Viewpoint Construction Software, in a move which will see 4Projects’ software sold across Viewpoint’s markets in the U.S., Canada and Australia.

Established in 2000, 4Projects employs 61 people and is taking on eight new members of staff to deal with the expected increase in demand for its products.

Founder and CEO Richard Vertigan said: “We are absolutely delighted to be a part of Viewpoint – our entire team is energised by the opportunities ahead and our role in Viewpoint’s future strategic direction.

“Bringing our exceptional team of collaboration software specialists to Viewpoint’s dynamic group of enterprise resource planning, enterprise content management and mobile software professionals, creates a diverse and talented group focused on addressing the challenges faced by the modern construction industry.”

Jay Haladay, CEO of Viewpoint said: “We look forward to providing the 4Projects team with additional resources and construction-specific software leadership to increase their already industry leading pace of product innovation in collaboration functionality.”
