Sunderland civil servants join walk out
THOUSANDS of civil servants were expected to mark Budget day today with a 24-hour strike as a dispute over pay, pensions and conditions rumbles on.
Staff at HM Revenue and Customs in Gilbridge House will join picket lines, while some 1,500 of their counterparts in Waterview Park, Washington, are also ready to walk out.
Workers at the Department for Work and Pensions in Sunderland’s Wearview House and at a contact centre in Sunderland Enterprise Park will also down tools for the day.
PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “Civil servants are working harder than ever to provide the services we all rely on, but instead of rewarding them, the Government is imposing cuts to their pay, raiding their pensions and trying to rip up their basic working conditions.”
