BARGAIN hunters will get the star treatment when they spend a penny at a shopping centre, after its toilets were hailed as award winners.

Dalton Park in Murton has been given the gold standard in the Loo of the Year initiative.

It is the ninth year in a row the centre has collected the title, which aims to raise and maintain the standard of public toilets across the country.

Jerry Hatch, the centre’s manager, said: “We get amazing feedback from customers about our fabulous loos – even on the busiest Saturdays we still maintain the highest standards.

“Our facilities team work very hard to keep our customers happy and this is great recognition of their efforts.”

In addition to keeping the toilets clean, the outlet’s team use cut flowers to brighten the ladies and gents.

The awards are open to any type of “away from home” toilet, with 60 categories listed on the entry form.

The scheme was launched in 1987 and is run by the British Toilet Association with the aim of encouraging the highest standards possible in public toilets.
