Anna works way to title
AWARD WINNER: David Fisher of Rolls-Royce, Anna Ebblewhite and June Smith of EEF.
A TEENAGER with her eye on an engineering job in Formula One has joined an elite group of top business performers after scooping her latest award.
Anna Ebblewhite was among those to collect titles in the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards, with the 16-year-old from Shotton Colliery picking up the Young Engineering Student trophy.
Judges said she impressed them with her performance during her work placement with British Energy’s base in Hartlepool, with the award following on from previous international, national and regional accolades.
Her title was sponsored by Rolls-Royce, with Jordan Dyer, a St Robert of Newminster student, a runner-up in her category.
Anna was a student at St Bede’s in Peterlee and is now studying at its Byron Sixth Form College.
She said: “I would like to think that my situation can encourage girls to become engineers and to break the stereotype that girls don’t belong in engineering, because they do. I’m a female, and also a successful engineering student.
Headteacher Paul McKenna added: “The school is always delighted when our students gain such prestigious awards.
“Throughout her school life, Anna has proved to be an excellent role model and we are confident that when she completes her graduate and postgraduate work, she will achieve even greater successes and be one of our most coveted alumni.”
The awards are hosted by EEF, the UK manufacturers’ organisation, and recognise excellence in enterprise, innovation, environmental performance and skills development among UK manufacturers.
Anna will go forward to compete against other regional winners from across the UK in EEF’s National Awards final in London January.
