ONE OF Wearside’s best-known names has taken its first step into cyberspace.
Jacky White’s Market now has its own website, thanks to bright sparks Stuart and Anthony Baldridge.
The brothers, who run Sprintprint in the Sunderland city centre market, have set up www.jackywhitesmarket.co.uk and invited their fellow stall-holders to advertise on it.
The site features an overview of the market, as well as individual slots for each business to explain who they are and what they do, as well as feature offers and discounts.
Anthony explained the aim had been to challenge popular misconceptions about the market and highlight the broad range of businesses based within it.
“When we speak to a lot of our family and friends, they say, ‘Why would I go there?’,” said Anthony.
“We need to move away from the perception that people have that it is just a place for old people.
“We have to get the reality across that it is not, that there is a lot going on.
“There are a lot of new shops here, as well as shops that have been here for years and years.”
Anthony has been delighted with the response to the new site from both his fellow stall-holders and the public.
“We put the site out to everybody to come in on it – the more shops there are on the site, obviously, the more successful it will be,” he said.
“There are only three or four who have not taken the offer up, out of the 38 shops in the market. We have had more than 4,000 hits already.
“We know at first there will be a lot of hits from the people who are actually on there and who want to have a look for themselves and see what it is like, but we are still really pleased.”
