A CHARITY dedicated to helping unemployed over-50s create their own firms is coming to Sunderland to help people get set up in business.
It is the first time The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise (Prime) is planning to host two business training courses.
It starts with a one-day workshop next Thursday.
A three-day workshop will run from Wednesday, June 19.
Recent figures provided by the Office of National Statistics showed self-employment is gaining popularity, with 4.2million self-employed workers nationwide, up 367,000 in four years.
Terry King, northern development manager, said: “The number of unemployed over-50s is steadily rising, and this number is only going to increase as people are living longer.
“At Prime, we believe that there is an alternative for those who think there is no hope in the job market, and that is self-employment.”
The courses will be held at Age UK’s Bradbury Centre in Stockton Road.
