BIRTHDAY celebrations were a sweet success as shoppers gathered to create a giant treat celebrate Dalton Park’s first decade.
The retail outlet began two months of merrymaking to mark 10 years of business, built on the site of former Murton Colliery.
Celebrations as part of the anniversary festival so far have included games such as pin the tail on the donkey, pinata and a Cadbury Buttons Panda and treasure trail.
Guests were also invited to decorate a huge cake. Younger guests had the chance to meet the outlet’s mascot Dalton, who danced with the little visitors to songs, including Gangnam Style.
Louise Thompson, marketing manager of Dalton Park, said the day was a celebration of its success.
“It was a very happy birthday all round,” she said.
“An amazing 12,000 visitors came for the celebrations and they gave us comments like ‘a fantastic day,’ and ‘great party.’
“Everybody had a brilliant time.”
Dalton Park gave away 1,000 cupcakes, and stilt walkers and silent statues put on displays for visitors.
Louise, said: “The big birthday cake will remain on display for a week, and visitors can see a photo display of images of the opening event in 2003 and Saturday’s birthday events.”
Dalton Park is now planning the £35million phase two of its development, which will include a five-screen cinema, pub, hotel, supermarket and petrol station.
