GENTOO Group is proud to be sponsoring the Employer of the Year category at this year’s Sunderland Echo Portfolio Business Awards, encouraging other businesses to make employees a priority.
The company, which employs 1,857 people, prides itself on its commitment to challenging conventions.
This year it was ranked second in the country for its inclusion policies for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff, according to the 2013 Workplace Equality Index run by equality campaign group Stonewall.
Diversity is extremely important to Gentoo, and the firm’s Equality and Diversity Co-ordinator Pam Walton was recently announced as housing sector Diversity Champion in the Tees Valley BME Achievement Awards 2013.
The group celebrates its employees’ hard work at its annual ‘Graftas’ awards evening, dedicated to honouring their achievements and rewarding their commitment.
Chief executive Peter Walls said: “Our employees are what makes Gentoo who we are, so we are delighted to be sponsoring the Employer of the Year category at this year’s Portfolio Awards.
“One of our core values is to cultivate a learning curiosity, and by continuing to listen to our staff and their ideas, we can carry on shaping the future direction of our business together.”
Mr Walls added: “Good luck to all the companies involved in the Portfolio Awards. We’re looking forward to hearing the inspiring stories behind the entries.”
“We want to make society a better place to live and to make a real difference to the way people live their life and live their lives to the maximum of their own potential – their art of living.”
This year’s awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Stadium of Light next Thursday, when Black Cats boss Kevin Ball will be our guest speaker.
