HOUSING group Gentoo is proud to be one of this year’s sponsors of the Sunderland Echo Portfolio Awards.

The organisation, ranked by The Sunday Times Top 100 as the 21st best not-for-profit organisation to work for, is supporting the Employer of the Year category.

Gentoo, which employs 1,857 people, says its ambition is to improve lives by investing in people, which is one of the reasons it is so pleased to sponsor the awards.

Chief executive of the group, Peter Wells, said he is “excited” to be involved.

“It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the hard-working people of Sunderland, and the determination they show every day,” he said.

“We are particularly proud to be sponsoring the Employer of the Year category.”

He added: “We strongly believe in the people we work with, and hope that by making things happen, we are creating a movement of people all working towards the same goals,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to being part of the awards, and to hearing all the great things that businesses are doing.”

The Sunderland Echo Portfolio Awards celebrates the achievements of the city’s businesses.

This year, they also include an award for medium-size businesses, employing between 11 and 50 people, and an award to businesses which have had success overseas, in the Export category.

The awards night will take place at the Stadium of Light on October 13.
