A Portfolio awards sponsor is looking forward to hearing how inspiring businesses are making a difference on Wearside.

Gentoo is backing the special community category in the Sunderland Echo Portfolio Business Awards.

It is so important to recognise the achievements of businesses that promote our region, bring our communities together and make a difference to people’s lives

Gentoo chief executive Peter Walls told of his delight at being involved in the competition as it bids to unearth the best in business.

Mr Walls said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Special Community category in Sunderland Echo’s Portfolio Business Awards.

“It is so important to recognise the achievements of businesses that promote our region, bring our communities together and make a difference to people’s lives.

“At Gentoo we are committed to having a positive impact on society and this is what drives us. It will be great to see how other businesses have been getting involved in responsible business activity as well as hearing the inspiring stories behind the entries. Good luck to all businesses and individuals who are nominated.”

An impressive line-up of early contenders has already emerged for the Sunderland Echo Portfolio Business Awards 2015. But there’s plenty of time for all interested companies to put their names in the hat for the annual contest

Once again, we want to celebrate the very best in business across Wearside, South Tyneside and East Durham by unearthing the fantastic talent in our business community.

This year’s awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, October 15.

Make It Sunderland is again our headline sponsor, and will sponsor our overall Business of the Year Award, as well as a Lifetime Achievement award.

This year sees a new category sponsored by Make It Sunderland, which will recognise the contribution of social enterprises.

Sponsors are Gentoo, Stagecoach, Andrew James, Station Taxis, Sunderland BID and Maxim Facilities Management Ltd, while Sunderland College is our partner sponsor.

It’s a fantastic list of backers. All we need now is a top line-up of companies to enter.
