WEARSIDE families are being urged to go on the run as a new events programme launches in Sunderland.

The Active Sunderland Big Mini Fun Run is set to launch on Saturday, May 2 as part of the Active Sunderland Big events programme 2015.

With a focus on fun running for all the family, the event sees people in fancy dress run a one mile or two mile circuit of the city’s Mowbray Park, which is suitable for young participants.

The longer two mile route is a new addition for this year and the Big Mini Fun Run takes place on the same weekend as the Sunderland City 10k and Half Marathon.

Sunderland’s own Apprentice star, Katie Bulmer-Cooke, will do a pre-run warm up.

The run takes place from 1.30pm and is open to children aged three to seven, if they are accompanied by an adult. Children aged eight to 10 can run by themselves but must be under adult supervision.
