A SUNDERLAND business is celebrating after being singled out by Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis.
Each week, the Ryman’s chairman selects six small businesses to promote on his feed on social networking website Twitter with the hashtag #SBS, short for Small Business Sunday.
This week it was the turn of Sunderland’s Collinson Jewellers to feature, as boss Harry Collinson explained.
“It is good news for us and it is good news for the city,” he said. “You never know where it will lead.”
Each week Mr Paphitis rewards small businesses that tweet him at @TheoPaphitis and describe their business in one tweet, including the #SBS hashtag.
With the Dragon boasting more than 260,000 followers on Twitter, featuring on the SBS list can provide a healthy boost for businesses.
“It has been fantastic – we have had loads of emails since,” said Harry.
As well a mention on @TheoPaphitis, businesses are also featured on website theopaphitissbs.com.
“Theo has got a real thing about wanting to help and support small businesses,” said Harry, who believes other Wearside firms are missing out by not applying.
“It is just a really good way to raise your profile and it gives you a bit of street cred,” he added.
“I just sent Theo a tweet about our business and it went from there.
“It was a lovely surprise to be chosen and it was great to see Sunderland on the Twitter feed,” said Harry.
