A GREAT jobs week on Wearside continues after retail chain Poundworld announced plans to create 40 new posts with the opening of its latest store.
The new store at Hylton Retail Park will help cost-conscious shoppers beat the recession by offering a “value alternative to other high street retailers”.
The news comes just days after Nissan revealed it is to build a new model in Sunderland, helping create 1,000 new jobs. While yesterday, the Echo told how car component firm Calsonic Kansei is to increase its Wearside workforce by 145 after a £15million investment.
The latest jobs announcement further boosts the city’s economy.
The new 9,000 square foot Poundworld store, opening on Saturday, will also be home to a Discount UK outlet, the retail company’s new multi-price brand.
Spread across a third of the store, Discount UK offers more than 3,000 products with savings on a range of products including home furnishings, electricals and branded toys.
Chris Edwards Junior, trading director at Poundworld and Discount UK, said: “We’re really delighted to be opening our second store in Sunderland and to be creating 40 new jobs for the city.
“By combining a Poundworld and Discount UK store in one outlet, we are offering our customers the best-possible value and allowing them to take advantage of great offers on higher-value items over £1 that we aren’t able to sell in a purely Poundworld store.
“We look forward to welcoming customers and we hope the exciting brand split will prove a bit hit with savvy shoppers in Sunderland.”
