EAST Durham College will be hosting a careers event for Year 9 pupils and their parents.
The Peterlee-based college is working in partnership with schools to bring together a wide range of employers, training providers, armed forces, other further education colleges, sixth forms and universities to help give the young people a helping hand.
This will also help them firm up on their school GCSE options, which they must make soon.
Fred Harrison, assistant principal at the college, said: “This is the first time we have held an event of this type specifically for Year 9 pupils.
“It’s very important to help young people as early as possible to start thinking about what they might do after school and what career they’d like to pursue.”
The college is expecting more than 1,000 Year 9 pupils from the seven secondary schools in East Durham, as well as a large number of its own students, to visit the event.
The event will be held on Tuesday, February 1, between 9am and 6pm at East Durham College’s Peterlee Campus on Willerby Grove and pupils and their parents from any year group are encouraged to come along between 4pm and 6pm.
