MORE local food please.
That is the message from the North East according to a new campaign from The National Farmers Union (NFU).
It says three quarters of people in the region think Britian should be more self-sufficient in food and that supermarkets should sell more UK produce.
Also, seven out of 10 always or sometimes look for British food when filling their shopping basket.
The results come from a OnePoll survey commissioned by the NFU as it launched its Farming Delivers campaign today.
The aim is to highlight the key role played by an industry that employs more than 40,000 people across Yorkshire and the North East, had total output of nearly £2.4billion in 2010 and manages 70 per cent of land in the region.
