SCHOOLS, businesses and individuals across Wearside will be getting funny for money today, as Red Nose Day returns.

And for staff at one call centre, Comic Relief night promises to be rather more than just a laughing matter.

All our volunteers are really excited to take part, and we’ll definitely have a night to remember.

Mike Davies, npower

For the first time, npower’s North-East HQ has been selected as the regional call centre for the bi-annual event.

More than 165 npower volunteers will be taking part in their own fund-raising activities and manning the phone lines right through until midnight.

Employee engagement manager Mike Davies said: “It’s really exciting to volunteer and take part in such an iconic appeal.”

Mike, who is a member of npower’s Rainton charity committee, continued: “I’m really proud that npower is extending the support it already offers from its Hull site to here in the North East this year. All of our volunteers are really excited to take part and we’ll definitely have a night to remember.”

Gareth Pickles is customer services director at the Rainton Bridge site: “I’m extremely proud of the amount of volunteers who want to take part in this fantastic cause,” he said.

“Red Nose Day brings the entire nation together to have fun, raise cash and change lives and it’s an honour for npower to be a part of it.”
