STRIKE action which threatened to hit bus services across Wearside has been called off after union leaders and company bosses hammered out an 11th hour deal.
Unite drivers employed by Go North East were due to walk out tomorrow, Monday and next Saturday.
But a meeting last night agreed a revised pay offer which will now be put to members. The revised offer consists of three parts: a two per cent increase backdated to July 2012; a further 0.5 per cent from from next month; and a final two per cent from July.
The increase will be funded through productivity improvements which will be the subject of further negotiation.
Martin Harris, commercial director of Go North East, said: “We’re very pleased that the trade union has decided to suspend its industrial action. This means that our customers will experience normal services tomorrow and on Monday and Saturday, March 23.”
