HUNDREDS of new homes could be built in a community.
Tees Valley Housing hopes to create the new development in West Rainton.
If given the green light, 250 two, three, four and five bedroom properties could be built on a field next to Station Road.
The firm says the houses will be affordable and suitable for first-time buyers. New shops will also be created and improvements to the A690 junction carried out, which will increase safety.
Residents can look at the plans and quiz developers today at a consultation event between 2pm and 7pm at West Rainton Jubilee Hall, in South Street.
Martin Hawthorne, director of development and regeneration for Fabrick, the parent company of Tees Valley Housing, said: “Durham is a city that, like many areas, desperately needs more homes.
“West Rainton is already popular and has a range of community facilities. We would like to work with the residents on this development to help boost the community even further and cement its future.”
