A BROWNIE troop got into the celebration mood by gaining a special badge to commemorate the Royal Wedding.

Riding in a “posh car” was just one of the tasks the 24th Sunderland Group had to complete to get their hands on the coveted badge.

Instead of taking the traditional route of simply hiring a limousine, Brownie leader Linda Lawson had other ideas and contacted the Mayor inquiring about the possibly of having a ride in his car.

She said: “I thought instead of taking the obvious expensive choice, I’d give the Mayor a ring and ask if we could go in the car with him, and he was more than happy to oblige.”

The girls all took turns riding in Councillor Thomas Martin’s Mercedes.

The Brownie troop, based at Rutland Street, Millfield, also completed a number of tasks including arranging a Royal Wedding party, getting hairdressers in to do their hair and making wedding invitations.
