Brothel charges dropped

A man accused of running a brothel from a Sunderland flat has had the charges against him dropped.

The case against Glen Downey, 30, of Marsdon Way, East Shore Village, Seaham, was discontinued at Gateshead Magistrates' Court.

Mr Downey, along with Asa Dobbing, 29, was alleged to have obtained money from prostitutes working at a flat in Nairn Close, Broadway Grange, between March 28 and May 6, 2007.

Dobbing, of Hunstanton, East Shore Village, will face trial at Newcastle Crown Court for one alleged offence of controlling prostitution.

He was granted unconditional bail.

At a committal hearing, Gateshead magistrates dismissed two other charges against him of possessing criminal property and operating a brothel.
