A BRAVE sex assault victim punched her attacker in the face and kept him at the scene until police arrived.
John Ramshaw had molested the woman as she slept after he was invited to her home for a drink last September.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the victim, who is in her 30s, had initially thought it was her boyfriend who had got on the bed with her.
However, prosecutor Janice Bellamy told the court the woman soon realised it was actually the 63-year-old man.
Miss Bellamy said: “She realised it was the defendant.
“She says she was scared so she punched him in the face and detained him until the police arrived.
“He accepted she thought it was her boyfriend, he accepted he ought not to have done it.”
Ramshaw, of Lindsay Street, Hetton, admitted a charge of sexual touching in the court hearing yesterday.
The court heard the victim was left “hating herself” and was disgusted by what Ramshaw did.
Judge Guy Whitburn sentenced Ramshaw to a community order for three years with supervision, a sex offender groupwork programme and charged him £500 costs.
Ramshaw must sign the sex offenders register for five years.
The judge said: “As a result of this she was extremely upset.”
James Adkin, defending, said Ramshaw has now been off alcohol for three months.
